Longford has been granted a night-time economy advisor under a new pilot scheme by the Department of Tourism, Culture and the arts.
The initiative hopes to support the development of vibrant and diverse night-time venues and experiences.
Longford is one of nine towns and cities which is included in the two year pilot, it also includes Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway Kilkenny, Drogheda, Sligo, and Buncrana.
The advisor will be appointed by the City and County Managers Association and they will engage with the community, businesses, venues and artists to implement plans for the revalorisation of nightlife in the town.
Minister Catherine Martin announced the local authorities that were successful in their bid today.
"The pilot support from my department is approximately 700,000 per annum and it's a 2 year pilot. We'd hope that the learnings from it will see it rolled out to all local authorities. In relation to the variation in sizes, a category of towns between 5,000 and 10,000 people were included because it's not just the big cities where we want to see nightlife thrive".
