There are calls for Longford County Council to ensure the purchase of the former greyhound track in the county town.
Campaign group, Longford Greyhound Track Amenity, is concerned that the local authority, which is understood to have had interest in the site, may not acquire it.
A sale is understood to be expected finalisied shortly and the group want to secure it for the public and for it to be developed as a multi-use sports ground for locals.

The site is currently zoned for recreational use, and according to Mark Keenan from the group, the purchase of it by the local authority is the best chance of it being developed for the general public:
