A local farmer is appealing for information following the theft of five horses in North Longford.
Caroline Baxter says two horses and three ponies were taken from her yard close to Granard on the evening of Friday September 17th.
The draft horses and fellabella ponies have a combined worth of over 5,000 euro and the local woman now fears they may have been taken out of the country, despite being microchipped.
One of the ponies was bought for Caroline's son who has special needs and recently began horse riding lessons.
She says she's very upset over the incident.
"I'm totally devastated and shocked. I love them, my father always loved horses and that's why I continued on with them since he passed away. You think your animals are safe but obviously they're not. It would've taken a good few of them to load them into a trailer when they're so young and not being used to being loaded into a trailer. To actually catch the little fellabellas would've been cruel. They would've put a rope around them and just pulled them.''
