Housing estates in Longford town have been described as being like "Mondello Park" with drivers speeding and endangering the lives of residents and children.
The comments were made at this month's meeting of Longford Municipal District following a motion from Councillor Gerry Warnock seeking a special safety audit to be undertaken in all estates in c in charge of the local authority.
However, he was told that the Council does not have the resources to carry out an audit, but will instead try to work with Councillors to improve areas of concern identified to them.
Residents in Farneyhoogan have been forced to drawing their own handwritten signs to try and encourage drivers to slow down due to a lack of signage in the area.
There are ramps on the way into the estate, but no 'Stop or 'Children At Play' signs are visible in many areas.
This mother of two explained that there is an ongoing worry for children in the estate :
Paddy Boyle has lived in Farneyhoogan for 20 years.
The well-known taxi driver says it is very worrying that there is a lack of ramps and no stop signs at the exits of any of the roads.
