Landowners across north Longford are being reminded that they are responsible for hedges and trees which could cause obstructions or incidents on public roads.
The September meeting of the Granard M.D. heard that the Council do not have the budget or means to be able to cut back hedges and it is the individual responsibility of landowners to carry out the works.
The Council does do a small amount of hedge cutting for safety reasons at junctions but cannot do large stretches of roads.
Councillor Paraic Brady believes that farmers and landowners should be encouraged with a grants scheme to cut down larger trees which could cause issues on roads.
