The mid Longford local electoral area which takes in Longford town and surrounds has recorded a Covid incidence rate of almost three times the national average at present.
The figures are revealed in the report on incidence rates in the various LEA's in counties across the country, taking in the period from the 16th of last month, to Monday last the 1st of March.
The report shows a total of 93 new Covid cases recorded in the Longford local elecotral area over the past couple of weeks giving it an incidence rate of 579 per 100,000.
The two other LEA's in the county also have higher incidence rates than the rest of the Shannonside region, with Ballymahon local electoral area recording 48 new cases from the 16th of last month until Monday this week giving it a rate of 339, and the Granard and north Longford area with 24 new cases and a rate of 224 per 100,000.
The LEA with the next highest Covid rate in the Shannonside counties is the Athlone LEA taking in the south Roscommon area, which had a total of 36 new cases and a rate of 180.
Mid Roscommon including Roscommon town and surrounds recorded a total of 23 new cases giving it an incidence rate of 101, and the local electoral area covering Boyle and the north of the county recorded a rate of 109 with 24 new Covid cases in the last fortnight.
The Carrick-on-Shannon electoral area in Leitrim has a very low rate of just 88 after 10 new cases were detected there in the last fortnight and the Ballinamore electoral area had 15 new cases and an incidence rate of 152.
The Manorhamilton area in north Leitrim also recorded 15 new cases since the 16th of February giving it a rate of 138.
