A Longford man is the latest to plead guilty to criminal charges following a 2019 violent incident in the town.
Hugh Patrick McGinley appeared before Longford Circuit Criminal Court last week charged with one count of Violent disorder and another of possession of an implement intended to harm at Gala Filling Station on the 3rd of June 2019.
On the evening in question Hugh Patrick McGinley of 5 Glack, Longford was involved in a fracas along with several other members of the wider McGinley family.
Last week, four Athlone men received suspended sentences and cash fines for their role in the incident.
Appearing before Judge Keenan Johnson, Mr McGinley pleaded guilty to becoming involved in the incident and to possession of a yellow pickaxe handle.
Remarking on the 21 year old's birthday occurring on a leap year, Judge Johnson commented that possibly 'explained his acting like a four year old' during the incident.
Extensive CCTV evidence and Garda statements were presented to the court last week during the arraignment of the other defendants, allowing Judge Johnson to make an informed sentence of Mr McGinley.
A one year suspended jail sentence along with a €2,000 fine payable within 6 months to the Little Blue Hero's Charity were imposed on Hugh Patrick McGinley.
He was also required to make a €500 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
