A Longford man guilty of harassing a local Senator has been sentenced for similar offences targeted at a Junior Government Minister. David Larkin of Ardnacassa Lawns, Dublin Road Longford pleaded guilty last month to the harassment of Minister Mary Butler on dates in January of 2022. Mr Larkin sent text messages to the Waterford TD on the 18th and 19th of January, 2022 that contained threats to the Junior Minister. The messages centred around his opposition to the Covid 19 vaccination programme.
Defence for the accused, Frank Geraghty stated his client had 'moved on so far' from his first appearance in court and had been engaging with psychological and probation services. It was stated that Mr Larkin had great respect for the constitution and the Judges role in administrating it. Mentioning David Larkin's recent charges in relation to the harassment of Senator Micheál Carrigy, Judge Bernadette Owens stated the charges were 'not at the same level.' At this week's sitting of Longford District Court, Mr Larkin was given a three month suspended jail sentence on a €250 bond.
