A significant redevelopment of the Market Square in Longford town will not be finished this year.
This month's meeting of the Municipal District heard a progress report from the Longford Connects programme currently underway at three locations in the town.
The Project will focus on creating a better connection between Grafton Court and the Market Square and involves the installation of new footpaths, lighting and signage, as well as street furniture and landscaping.
The initiative have proved contentious over the past year with local businesses and councillors criticising the delay in beginning the works.
According to the Local Authority, while development objectives at Tesco and Grafton Court in the town are very close to completion, the Market Square works are only 75 per cent finished.
It is planned that the final construction will take place early in the new year.
