A Longford TD says that the Out of Hours GP service in Longford will continue to operate.
The MIDOC out of hours service stopped operating in it's official capacity on Christmas Eve last year.
The HSE said at the time that they had been engaging with MIDOC for a number of months to address financial challenges it faced.
There is currently a review in progress to appoint a new provider for the service.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show earlier, Longford-Westmeath Deputy, Joe Flaherty, says that he has received assurances that the Longford service will continue to operate.
"It wasn't correct that it happened like it did on Christmas Eve, it caused a lot of disquiet and a lot of angst. I have received assurances from local GPs that MIDOC, as we know it as an out of hours GP service will continue in Longford. There is a review underway in relation to bringing in a new service provider that we understand will be a much better provider and I know GP's themselves are particularly happy to see a new provider coming in. I think it's important to get the message out there that the service is there".
