A Longford principal is calling on Irish Water to ensure an adequate service is in place for when the school re-opens in September.
St. Mels in Ardagh was forced to close for four days in recent months due to water disruption issues.
Principal Teresa Kearney says the school was given no notification of the interruption which meant students arrived but were then sent home.
She says it's impossible to operate without water and the loss of learning is having an impact on the children.
The local principal believes funding must be allocated for works on the network as a matter of urgency.
''It seems to be due to the old water mains from Ardagh to Ballymahon and I have been told by an engineer that this line doesn't seem to be a priority for funding. It has caused a lot of inconvenience in this past year, and we certainly don't want that to continue. The lack of notification is really a huge issue. I mean, I usually make get notified from a parent who lives locally, that there's no water''
