Garda road safety talks to secondary school students are a vital part of getting the message through to young motorists. That's the view of the Principal of Moyne Secondary School in Longford, after the school featured on RTE's 'On the Beat' programme last night. The show follows members of An Garda Síochána on the frontline, providing an inside look at the daily lives of serving Gardaí. Last night's episode followed local Gardaí as they delivered a road safety talk to older students in the college.

According to Gardaí, the mindset of younger drivers can be harder to change due to their generations reliance on mobile phones. Figures released by Gardaí show being on a phone makes drivers four times more likely to be involved in a crash. Principal of Moyne Community School, Des Cullen says sometimes the shock factor of these talks can have a positive effect:
