The Chairman of the Longford Vintners Federation hopes the organisations new bar apprenticeship programme will tackle staff shortages within the industry.
Minister Niall Collins will today launch the three year degree which is a collaboration between the VFI, Griffith College and Solas.
Gerry Lynn who runs The Sportsman's Inn in Edgeworthstown believes the qualification will encourage people to pursue a career in the sector.
While the training will be initially provided at campuses in Dublin, Cork and Limerick, it's hoped it can be rolled out more locally in the future.
Speaking to Shannonside FM The Longford publican says its time recognition is given to bar managers.
''It can be used to stay at home or travel the world, to have a qualification is a huge benefit and it will bring qualified people into the industry which is a benefit all round.''
