A Longford publican believes the option to open longer will even the playing field for all bars in the industry.
Barry Lynam of PV's bar and restaurant feels the initiative will be embraced by bigger towns and cities rather than rural areas.
Despite the added cost of staying open later the local man is welcoming the news.
"It standardises it across the board because some pubs serve late and some people move around different pubs because they know they serve late. It kind of gives everyone a fair chance. I'm not sure if it will affect Longford or if it's more for bigger cities, I'm not sure in that respect, but it will help businesses".
