The average cost of renting a home in the Shannonside region increased by an average of 15% compared to last year.
According to the latest release from the Residential Tenancies Board, Longford experienced the biggest increase in rent prices nationally. The report focuses on Quarter 2 of this year and shows the average rent price for new and existing tenancies, as well as the percentage change from 2022 into 2023. Longford had the highest average rent for new tenancies in the region at €992. This represents a 27.4% increase on the same time last year, the biggest percentage change nationally. The average rent for a new tenancy in Roscommon stood at €905 for quarter 2, up 8.8% on last year but a drop of 1.4% from quarter 1. While in Leitrim, the average cost was €879, a rise of 11% on the same time last year, but the lowest cost nationally. Average rents for existing tenancies also rose across the region by 8% year on year.
Roscommon had the highest figure at €786, followed by Longford at €763, and Leitrim at €679.
