A north Longford primary school made a little bit of history today when they became the first school in the country to raise the Pride Flag for 2022.
Aughnagarron National School is also the first primary school in the county to have raised a Pride Flag to date.
The raising of the flag is encouraged by the INTO as a symbol of the commitment of teachers to ensure schools are inclusive spaces for all.
The flag was presented and raised at Aughnagarron this morning by INTO President John Driscoll.
School Principal Siobhan Smith says they're very happy to have raised the flag at the school today.
''We said that we would like to create the safest environment possible for children so that they're safe to be themselves, safe to express themselves and stay safe to know that they can come to school without fear of any description, that it's okay to be different. It's okay to be yourself. And that's acceptance and inclusion is the message that we promote from a pride flag perspective.''
