A well known Longford Primary School is seeking to construct a significant expansion following a submission to county planners.
The Board of Management of St Joseph's National School in the town has sought the construction of a single storey extension at the Dublin Road school.
The new build would contain two special needs classroom units with a central activity space, a multisensory room and office, toilet and storage facilities.
Also included in the proposed development is a mainstream classroom, two replacement toilets and a link corridor to the existing building.
In addition to the single storey extension, the school has also applied for a new onsite special needs set down area accessed through the main gates, a raised pedestrian crossing and new road signage.
The project also calls for two new hard play areas, alterations to the existing staff carpark and the relocation of gas tanks to a new tank compound
Longford County Council will decide on the issue in February.
