Resources must be made available for the provision of a family resource centre for Longford Town.
Senator Micheal Carrigy made the call to the Minister for Disability Ann Rabbitte in the Seanad yesterday for the service at the Attic House in the town.
Family resource centres provide a range of services and development opportunities to address the needs of families in the area.
According to the Longford based Senator, the allocation of €180,000 is a simple ask to ensure a senior staff member and two support staff.
Addressing the Junior Minister in the chamber yesterday, Senator Carrigy confirmed that a suitable building has been identified and is ready to house the service:
''We have a fantastic service in Longford Women's Link that provides domestic violence support that's located just about 400 meters away from where we have a site, a building, fully functional, available to house a Family Resource Center. It's as simple ask Minister, we have a facility a building that will encompass no capital expenditure. Fully fitted out fully furnished, nor cost. We just need the sanction from Tusla.''
