The HSE has been described as a disgrace by a Longford senator over its delays in processing supports for families waiting for support for children with autism.
Health authorises have been slammed for what Senator Michael Carrigy said was a major backlog in providing services for children with autism a or those seeking early intervention
The Ballinalee native is also the Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Autism, said this government and previous governments had let parents down in terms of supports being offered but not delivered.
He feels that not all families can afford to pay for private services and the Minister needs to demand answers from the HSE.
''Some parents aren't in a position to be able to do that and I just don't think it's acceptable. And to be honest, I think we need to call up the HSE. It's an absolute disgrace. It's an absolute disgrace and the management of the HSE to deal with filling these positions across all teams across the country need to be called out because it's, a disgrace and they're not doing the jobs. And I think the minister and the government needs to call them to count''
