There had been speculation the station, which covers north Longford, would be downgraded in some way.

Longford senator Micheal Carrigy has played down speculation that Granard Garda station could be set to be downgraded as part of divisional reorganisation plans.

It's understood that senior Garda management are examining ways to further streamline resources across the country, and the north Longford station is being examined as part of proposals.

It had been suggested recently that as a result of the subsuming of Longford and Granard into one countywide district under the management of Superintendent Seamus Boyle, the north Longford station may see a reduction in senior staff.

However, Senator Carrigy has revealed he has spoken to both the Justice Minister Helen McEntee and the Garda Superintendent and they have confirmed to him that there will be no reduction in resources this September.
