A Longford senator is disputing concerns over the future of Granard Garda Station.
Earlier this week Deputy Joe Flaherty called for assurances that current Garda numbers would remain in the north Longford area.
However, Michael Carrigy has described Deputy Flaherty's comments as scaremongering and he says there will be no reduction in uniform Gardaí in the district.
The Fine Gael representative says more Gardaí will be on the beat with the allocation of two new civilian staff for both Granard and Longford.
Senator Carrigy claims plans have also been put in place to put extra staff in Edgeworthstown station.
