A Longford Senator believes there would have been a mass exodus of landlords if the eviction ban wasn't lifted.
Michael Carrigy says confidence needed to be restored to ensure property owners waited in the rental market.
While it was difficult decision for Government the Fine Gael representative says it was the right one.
He says supports are in place for those handed with an eviction notice.
'I think that was the fear that if the ban was extended we would see a mass exodus of landlords from the market and in recent year in particularly the opposition parties have actually viol vided people that own houses for various reasons.
These were family homes that was left to them and they had purchased them as an investment for their kids and where someone is in a situation if they receive an eviction ban there are supports there from the Residency Tenancy Board but also local authorities have been given funding to go in and actually purchase those housing.'
