Longford senator says proposed turf ban is a 'step too far'

The change in rules is part of an update to regulations on the burning of solid fuel.

A Longford senator believes attempts to ban the sale or distribution of turf is a 'step too far' by the Environment Minister.

Changes to regulations around the sale of turf has sparked outrage in rural communities.

In response to a parliamentary question, Eamon Ryan informed politicians the sale and distribution of turf will be banned from September 1st.

Micheal Carrigy says he will bring the matter to the Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting this week.

He feels the decision is a mistake - especially in the midst of a fuel crisis.
