A Longford senator is urging the government to provide clarity on forestry grants to landowners.
The new Forestry Programme for 2023-2027 provides funding to encourage the planting of trees with the aim to increase forest cover and create benefits for current forests.
However, the rates of the grants and when they will be paid is still unknown
Senator Micheál Carrigy, speaking in the Seanad yesterday, said people need assurances that funding will be provided.
Minister for Agriculture, food, and Marine, Charlie McConalogue, responded saying the grants are still awaiting approval and once that is received, the public will be informed.
