A son of the 73-year-old man shot in Longford town says his father is 'on the mend' and he is 'fairly confident' he will make a full recovery.
He expects his dad, named PJ Finnan, to be discharged from hospital today or tomorrow.
PJ Finnan was in the downstairs living room in a house in Springlawn at around 7.50 on Wednesday night when shots were fired through the window - as his son, Patrick, explains.
He was taken to Mullingar Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, but, speaking last night, Patrick said his dad is now on the mend.
The scene of the shooting was technically examined on Wednesday night and early yesterday.
A car was found burnt out nearby, which it is suspected was a getaway vehicle.
No arrests have been made as Gardai try to establish a motive.
Patrick says his father is highly thought of in the area.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information on this incident to contact them.
