Longford Slashers booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Peter Hanley Motors Longford SFC championship with a 1-9 to seven point win over Carrickedmond.
Slashers only needed a draw to secure a place in the quarter-final but in truth were in total control of the game from the fifth minute onwards.
Slashers led four points to three at half-time thanks to scores from Daire O' Brien, Andrew Dalton, Conor Clarke and Robbie O' Connell (f).
Ruairi Clarke’s capitalised on a Carrickedmond mistake five minutes into the second-half to send the ball home for a goal and move Slashers four points clear.
Carrickedmond pulled it back to a two point game bang on the second water break, but they could never close out the lead with Slashers winning out by five 1-9 to seven points.
The victory means Longford Slashers win group three and progress to quarter-finals, where they will be joined by Fr. Manning Gaels who take second place.
