Longford Slashers registered an opening day victory in the 2020 Longford senior football championship with a convincing 2-16 to eight point win over Fr. Manning Gaels.
Slashers were always in control with a 27th minute penalty by Andrew Kelly which made it 1-9 to four points as Slashers led at half-time on that score-line.
Slashers were always in control and found seven second half points to Fr. Manning Gales four with Gerard Flynn finding the net in the final moments to seal the 2-16 to eight point win.
Things were much closer in the group four meeting between Dromard and Granard held in Abbeylara were it finished Grandard 1-11, Dromard 14 points.
The sides couldn’t be separated throughout going in eight points apiece at half-time, Dromard having pulled back a three point deficit by the first water break.
Darren Gallagher converted a penalty 17 minutes into the second half to make it 1-9 to eight points but Dromard played to the whistle scoring two points in the final eight minutes to draw the game out 1-10 to 13 points.
