Longford solicitor Michael Connellan has been nominated as a District Court judge.
The former county councillor is one of 8 people around the country who have bene nominated to the courts as a result of the Governments investment in additional judges following the work of the Judicial Planning Working Group.
The number of District Court Judges will now increase from 63 to 71.
Michael Connellan qualified as a solicitor in 2000.
His father was also appointed as a Judge in 1994 and served on the bench for almost a decade.
Michael Connellan served as a Fianna Fail member of Longford Urban Council from 2007 to 2014.
He took up a position with the Child and Family Agency TUSLA in 2019.
