A Longford TD believes the county requires a massive house building programme in order to boost its economic activity.
Deputy Joe Flaherty claimed in the Dail that there has been no developments of the standard three bedroom semi-detached house in the county with over a decade.
He called don the government to speed up its plan for an upgrade of the N$ which he claimed was an impediment to foreign direct investment in the region.
The Fianna Fail TD believes that the development of more housing units would be a massive boost to towns such as Ballymahon and Edgeworthstown.
However, he feels that unless issues with Irish water can be resolved, no developer will engage in such a project :
