Longford Fianna Fail Deputy Joe Flaherty says he's cautiously optimistic that funds will yet be allocated to allow the planning work to go ahead this year on the N4 Mullingar to Longford update.
The project is one of 8 around the country which were shelved late last year due to lack of funds.
Deputy Flaherty raised the N4 issue with the Taoiseach in the Dail yesterday and said he was very pleased to hear Micheal Martin say that it's his opinion that any projects that are at the final stage of planning should be allowed continue.
It had been expected that a preferred route would be published for the Longford Mullingar project this month.
The Longford Westmeath TD says with the comments from the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste yesterday about the stalled projects, he's hopeful the N4 plans will be allowed progress.
