A Longford Westmeath TD says the government’s communications on the legislation on protecting data gathered by the Mother and Baby Homes Commission was a disaster.
Deputy Joe Flaherty is one of a number of government TDs who voted to pass the legislation last week, who has had soft toys left outside his constituency office in Longford.
Ministers of State Robert Troy and Frank Feighan have also been the target of similar anger by campaigners who were hoping that the Commission’s database of all those who entered the baby homes would be available to survivors and their families.
Deputy Flaherty says there was no way that TDs would have tried to suppress any information.
Deputy Flaherty admitted there was poor communications by government but says the Minister has promised to work on it.
