A Longford teacher is concerned the normalisation of AI usage in schools will lead to over-reliance. It comes as academic expert Professor Damian Murchan suggested in an article in the Irish Independent that Leaving Cert students should be examined on their use of AI.
The Department of Education recently announced that pupils will be able to cite AI-generated content as a source in their Leaving Cert projects. But Politics and Society teacher at Meán Scoil Mhuire Longford, Laura Foley, explained that this new development is leading to a counter-productive method of learning:
