The chairperson of Longford Tidy Towns believes its dedicated volunteers are contributing to the town's litter free status.
Longford is now cleaner than European norms and is in 8th place nationally according to today's IBAL report.
John Farrell says litter free streets entices more people to the town with seven out of ten sites getting an A grade.
These included the Harbour Row Shopping Centre, Longford Train Station as well as several approach roads.
Elsewhere, Cavan climbed back into the Clean category at 17th, while Monaghan just missed out on the highest rankings.
However, Roscommon fell to 29th position receiving a littered status.
Local auctioneer John Farrell says Longford's result is progress in the right direction and is appealing to the public to adopt an area or street to help keep clean.
