Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael Deputy Peter Burke says he's more hopeful than optimistic of getting any of the Junior Minister positions that will be announced today.
The Mullingar based accountant has been tipped as a possible contender for a promotion given his performance in the Dáil since he was first elected in 2016.
Over the past four years he's been appointed to the Public Accounts Committee, the Finance Committee and the Rural and Community Development Committee, and has been put forward as party spokesperson in radio and television debates over the years.
Deputy Burke says every TD likes to think their hard work might be rewarded, but he says a three party government doesn't make that easy.
He says the controversy over the lack of representation for the west is also a factor that wouldn't favour him.
