Cabinet is meeting to discuss ways to reduce consumption.

An Edgeworthstown resident says she'll continue her Christmas lights tradition this year despite warnings of energy blackouts.

Collette Conway has erected an illuminated Christmas tree at her home for more than 25 years with the festivities getting underway at the Longford home at the end of October each year.

The local woman says she will be putting up the tree at Halloween and will make cutbacks on other indoor lights.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show Collette says she's installed solar panels, uses energy saving lights and will only switch them on for a couple of hours each evening.

''My lights will be on and my video will be on Facebook. I have solar panel heating so it's not as bad for me on electricity. Now I am finding it. I have spent on electricity since the 27th of February till the 4th of September €520 give or take the €200 the government gave, so it's working around  €75 a month.''
