Longford's most famous athlete returned to his former primary school today to urge children to become more active.
Ray Flynn was back in the classroom at St Michael's National School to speak to the pupils about the importance of getting outside and enjoying the fresh air as part of a new exercise initiative.
The "Daily Mile' campaign encourages school children to run for 15 minutes every day to improve not only their physical but mental well being and to develop good exercise habits for later in life.
Speaking to Shannonside FM, Ray says the campaign helps children of all abilities set easy goals to achieve:
"I think it's natural for some kids. They do a lot of running when they're young. They play football, soccer, and gaelic but running a mile is something to aim for and to work up to. We encourage them to do that. Any time I can encourage youngsters to take up running, I want to do it. I want to promote health and fitness".
