Fears are growing for homes and farmland close to a Roscommon turlough as water levels have reached crisis point.
Levels at Lough Funshinagh gave risen steadily since the end of September last year.
Roscommon County Council has issued a statement this week raising concerns that current flood defense measures will soon be ineffective.
The local authority confirmed that hydro-ecological field studies were currently underway to identify a long-term solution but wouldn't be completed until later this year.
A successful High Court challenge taken by Friends of the Irish Environment means that effective flood relief works can not be completed at the turlough.
