Over 30 farmers around a south Roscommon lake have suffered significant losses as a result of the flooding
Hundreds of people attended a meeting last night in Lecarrow to discuss the ongping issues with rising water levels at Lough Funshinagh.
Teagasc advisor James Kelly said farmers he has been dealing with in recent years have lost anything up to 20 acres as a result of the rising waters.
He claims this has resulted in a double blow for the farmers with actual land loss, and the loss of entitlements for the property.
He believes landowners should be entitled to some kind of retrospective payments and it should be addressed by any group working on the issue in the future:
''A lot of those have lost up on 20 arces of land since the back end of 2016. It's caused enormous hardship with regards to the loss of entitlements, the loss of agricultural land and loss of land value.''
