Outdoor staff at Roscommon council had to be called into Lough Key Forest Park over the Bank Holiday weekend to deal with a large amount of litter and dumping.
Workers at the Lough Key Forest and Activity Park were laid off in March when the Covid-19 lockdown began and manager Louise Fitzpatrick said it was heartbreaking to see the disrespect to the park surrounds over the weekend.
The manager said that in the past Lough Key staff had gone out of their way to keep the park litter free but there are no staff there now to pick up the rubbish that some people leave behind.
Local councillor John Cummins who went to the park on Sunday morning to view the situation said he was shocked to see how much litter was there.
He said it also appears that people are bringing household rubbish to dump in the bins in the park…
