The Chief Executive of Lough Ree Distillery in Lanesboro says they hope to be able to break ground on the new distillery and visitors centre by the middle of next year.

Peter Clancy has been speaking in the wake of the company being offered €1 million euro in grant aid under the Just Transition Funds last week.

Lough Ree Distillery began producing their first drink in October of 2018, and is investing more than €5 million in developing a new facility and visitors centre.

The family run enterprise have said previously they would expect more than 25,000 tourists to be visiting the facility by 2023, with 20 new jobs being created locally.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show today Peter Clancy says the money under the Just Transition fund will hopefully help them achieve their goal, but there is still a process to be gone through before they can access any funding.
