A local RNLI branch is appealing to the public to remain cautious when on the water this Christmas.
The message comes from the Lough Ree organisation who attended 46 call-outs this year assisting over 150 people.
Press officer Tom McGuire says water temperatures are colder than usual with high water levels also.
He is reminding the public that the RNLI volunteer crew remain on call 24/7 throughout the Christmas and New Year period.
The Longford native says anyone swimming should wear bright colours while those taking a boat out should take time to check their engines.
