The National Ambulance Service has left the west Roscommon ambulance base at Loughglynn behind when it comes to adhering to recommendations by Labour Relations Commission.

While both Mulranny and Tuam bases have now got resources to work on a 24/7 basis, Loughglynn is still only part time, on call until 6pm Monday to Friday and only at night on weekends.

According to information requested by Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane, personnel respond to between three and five calls a day, over 100 in a month and up to 1200 a year, yet it only has one crew of four.

Issues also arise as crews travel distances of between 56 and 78 kilometers to an Emergency Department and on their way back to west Roscommon are called to another incident within Galway, Mayo, or Sligo.

Deputy Kerrane is seeking a meeting with the Director of the National Ambulance Service to see if any of the recent staff hired can be redeployed to Loughglynn.
