Mairead McGuinness has been named as Ireland's new EU Commissioner.
The Vice President of the European Parliament succeeds Phil Hogan in the role.
It's almost two weeks since Phil Hogan's resigned from his position as EU Commissioner, which came about in the wake of the Golfgate scandal.
After some lengthy consideration, the government put forward two candidates to replace him on Friday - Vice President of the European Parliament Mairead McGuinness and former European Investment Bank Vice-President Andrew McDowell.
Interviews were held yesterday morning, and today EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Phil Hogan's successor.
Ms. McGuinness will also take over the Financial Services portfolio

Mairead McGuinness' MEP seat will be taken by Fine Gael's Louth Cllr Colm Markey.
Mr Markey, 48, runs a family farm in Togher, County Louth.
He was first elected to Louth County Council in 2009 as a councillor for the Mid-Louth area. He is also former national president of Macra Na Feirme (2005-2007).
