A status yellow low temperature and ice warning has been issued for the Shannonside region. It'll begin at 6 o'clock this evening and remain in place until 11am tomorrow morning. Met Éireann is warning of widespread frost and ice, as temperatures fall below minus 3 degrees or lower in many places.

Separately, the forecaster says there will be sleet and snow this weekend, with significant accumulations of snow likely in some counties. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Cathal Nolan from Irelands Weather Channel says the cold snap is expected to remain until the end of next week:
