A local Government Minister says he will continue to work closely with his constituency colleague following his resignation from Fianna Fail yesterday.
Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry claimed Michael Martin's handling of a bullying complaint made against him by a Fianna Fail councillor is the reason for his departure from the party.
The Taoiseach's strongly rejected claims made by Deputy MacSharry about a written complaint received by Fianna Fáil. A spokesperson for Michael Martin says they have received the TD's resignation from the party and wish him well for the future.
His Constituency colleague, Junior Minister and Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan told Shannonside FM news that he has the height of respect for the now Independent TD. Minister Feighan stated he would continue to work closely with Deputy MacSharry along with other TDs in the area.
''First of all, Marc is a very good friend and colleague of mine and a good personal friend. And look, I wish Marc well whatever he does in the future, politics can be difficult, it can be a tough game and all I can say is that I have to height respect for Marc and we're good friends and we've worked together in the constituency and I look forward to working with him in the constituency in the future, along all my colleagues.''
