A local Mental Heath Care Centre has seen compliance ratings reach their lowest in five years according to a new Mental health Commission report.
The Cluain Lir Care Centre Annual Inspection for 2022 shows that the Mullingar facility saw compliance levels drop from 91 percent in 2021 to 73 percent last year.
The Centre is located on the grounds of St. Mary’s Care Centre, across the road from Mullingar Hospital and provides care and treatment for long stay and continuing mental health care residents.
The M.H.C report found that compliance levels for 2022 were the lowest in five years, with a major drop from 2021 to 2022.
While the centre was found compliant in areas such as Food Safety, Recreational Activities, Visits, Privacy and Health and Safety, several critical, high and moderate risk Non-compliance's were also identified.
One critical risk highlighted in the report was that the registered proprietor did not ensure that each resident had access to an appropriate range of therapeutic services, while there was also a shortage of dedicated space within the centre for delivery of therapeutic services.
General Healthcare was also an area that was identified as in need of immediate improvement, with adequate arrangements not in place for residents to access general health services and for their referral to other health services as required.
Issues with the Cluain Lir premises were included by Mental Health Commission inspectors, who noted that the proprietor did not ensure the overall centre environment had due regard to the specific needs of residents in the area of ligature points, recreational areas and therapeutic spaces.
Other areas highlighted as critical or high risk were Risk Management Procedures, Food and Nutrition, and Individual Care Plans.
