A number of community groups in Ballintubber in Roscommon have formed an umbrella committee to raise funds for a total of 4 projects in the local area.
The groups have been busy drawing down funds from government for the projects over the past year and a half but now they need to raise the necessary "match funding "from the local area.
One of the schemes will involve a community run accommodation and cafe facility.
A total of around €400,000 has been secured for the four local projects but the local community now has to find another €100,000 in order to get them underway.
Gail Murray is Chairperson of the re-established Ballintubber Development Association and she's been explaining the nature of the projects that are planned for the area.
'So namely we have a canoeing and kayaking, wheelchair accessible, waterways project on the River Suck.
We're also developing a park, playground, and a multi-purpose pitch at the old school house in the middle of the village.
We're also working with the OPW and Roscommon County Council in securing the old Garda Barracks to convert it into accommodation , and a community based cafe, so it'll be run as a social enterprise and any money generated will re-invested back into the accommodation and community projects.'
