The Minister for Transport has confirmed that €200 million has been allocated to a major upgrade project for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road in Roscommon.
The project comprises of 34km of new single carriageway bypassing the towns and villages of Frenchpark, Bellanagare, Tulsk and Strokestown.
Enabling works have been underway including archaeological assessments, ground investigation and fencing and hedgerow removal.
The project was confirmed by local Senator Eugene Murphy last month with Minister Eamonn Ryan this afternoon announcing that the project has received the go-ahead at cabinet level and will now progress to the construction phase.
