Over half a million euro has been allocated to towns in the Shannonside region as part of a new funding announcement. Roscommon town will receive €200,000, Longford town has been allocated €199,000 and Carrick on Shannon will receive over €135,000. The funding in Carrick on Shannon has been earmarked for the Town hall.
The building was proposed to be sold last year however local councillors decided not to proceed with the sale. The town hall is a protected structure and was originally built in 1830. Leitrim Cllr Finola Armstrong McGuire has welcomed the funding and explained what it will be used for:
