A painting by a Roscommon artist could reach a price of over €200,000 at auction this week.
Castleplunket native Roderic O'Conor is widely acknowledged as one of the country's most famous artists with his painting often reaching significant six-figure sums at auction.
A large painting of a moonlit coastal scene on the Breton coast from the turn of the 20th century is to go for sale at an auction this Wednesday by Adams Auctioneers.
The painting has a sale price of between €150-€200,000 and it is the first O'Conor painting to come up for auction in a number of years.
Roscommon’s own Roderic O’Conor painted this moonlit coastal scene on the Breton coast about 1898/1900 and it’s now up for auction on Wednesday next at 6pm. The sale is on view today until 5pm and virtually at https://t.co/9bB1DRPUPo pic.twitter.com/VDMuwQYid0

James O Halloran is the managing director of Adams. He says the quality of the painting suggests it will reach a significant price:
"Our feeling is that because of the rarity to some extent of this particular picture we reckoned that a figure in the sum of €150-000 plus would be an appropriate level.
To be honest with you we don't know what it is going to make and in fairness, it deserves to make that much because it is such a wonderful painting.
